Sex And Relationship Expert Dr Pam Spurr Gives Us A Look Into Her Erotic Art

"Making art is one way of relieving stress for me. Getting lost in painting is pretty much like therapy and I can spend the whole weekend, without much of a break, painting."

I was crazy about all things art as a teenager and thought I’d become an artist. But life put other things in my path like finding I was expecting a baby as a Uni student! Arts and crafts were a feature of my children’s childhoods but my own painting went by the wayside.

Last year I felt compelled to put brush to paper and unleash all of the images swirling around in my mind. It might sound strange but when I talk to clients, and others, about their personal stories it ignites colourful images in my mind.

All of my paintings relate to personal stories that people have shared with me, from issues in relationships, with self-esteem, addiction, loss and other life-changes. I also love exploring dreams and many of my paintings are inspired by erotic dreams. I guess you could say it’s psychology meets painting.

Sexual relationships are complicated and so too are erotic dreams, frequently about forbidden people or practices. What’s important to me is that no one feels ashamed about their sexual desires and that within their relationships, they’re always guided by confidence and being in control of any situation.

Everyone should feel free to experiment and understand how their sexual response works. I’m a huge advocate for using vibrators to explore your body and also simply to enjoy.

Lying back, relaxed, the mood set, makes for a sensual setting to explore your body. Then you can share your knowledge with a partner. And make sure they share with you what arouses them! Having enjoyable sex is such a stress-posture too.

Making art is one way of relieving stress for me. Getting lost in painting is pretty much like therapy and I can spend the whole weekend, without much of a break, painting. As well as using paint brushes (of course!) to achieve special effects I use feathers, sponges, sandpaper and other implements.

I’m a strong advocate for people getting creative in any way they feel – doodling, drawing, painting, pottery, multi-media, photography - it’s all good for the soul. Try something new that’s creative, if you don’t feel it’s worked out, it’s no loss.

The gallery on my website is now up and running, feel free to get in touch about commissions. The paintings included here are available to purchase although not all viewable on my website yet.
