What is jD Organic Bath Co and how did you get into it?

Sextech Salon with Jazmine Duke: Diving into Organic Baths & Conditioning Feminist Roots

Years ago, I started a feminist web publication called The Female Condition. The mission of The Female Condition, lovingly referred to as femcon, was to create a space for content that mattered to women. In the time I spent curating femcon, I developed a passion for women’s health.

I always knew I was deeply feminist, a committed advocate for women and women’s rights. As I dug deeper into my feminist roots, I uncovered how passionate I am about women’s health, specifically as it relates to our sexuality and sex organs – why in the world don’t we have more products that are good for our vaginas? It is as if the world doesn’t even acknowledge we have vaginas unless it is in regards to sexual intercourse.

I ended up retiring The Female Condition website, though Instagram (@thefemalecondition) is still alive and well. Little did I know, this was just the start of my journey to do more for women.

This year, I launched jD Organic Bath Co., a bath product company committed to creating vaginal care bath products. The current line up, Bomb AF Organic Bath Bombs, includes 3 different vaginal friendly bath bomb experiences.

Each product is handcrafted and made with ingredients designed to be in the tub with your sensitive parts. Handcrafted with only the best; organic, vegan, non-GMO, paraben free, no dyes or perfumes, and cruelty free ingredients. So, nothing icky in the tub with you to irritate sensitive skin

Bomb AF Bath Bomb ingredients are pure, clean, and purposefully curated for vaginal wellness. Pure baking soda to balance PH and an organic oil blend to hydrate the skin and encourage vaginal wetness.

What is your vision for the future of jD Organic Bath Co?

I want to do more for women. Products focused on and marketed to women are aplenty. But if we look across the female-centric landscape, we find a plethora of options that are largely about someone’s bottom line and not about the actual end consumer or user experience, nor are product offerings in line with what women have asked for or demanded.

Women, with significant purchasing power as individuals and within the family unit, are marketed to for the sales potential. But what are these ‘for her’ products amounting to when it comes to designing products for humans with vaginas?

In today’s world, the word ‘woman’ is certainly not synonymous with ‘humans with vaginas’. Yet, when we examine traditional marketing tactics, that is most certainly what ‘for her’ and ’woman friendly’ is intended to mean when slapped on a product label – “this product is designed for humans with vaginas”. But in most cases, the end product is nothing more than fancy marketing speak.

When I market what I market, I mean it. I made this product with a laser focus on creating a great product for women.

What are the key trends you’re seeing at the moment that influence your work?

I try not to use the word “woke,” as it is overused and cliche at this point. However, we are living in a time where women are getting woke AF.

(For those who don’t know, “woke” means to be aware of and actively fighting for social and racial justice – to be awake to seeing injustices).

The days where you can sell a product with low quality, harmful ingredients is starting to be a thing of that past. Which makes me really proud of where we are as a people, we have to be critical of the items that go into our bodies.

What’s the biggest surprise you’ve had since starting to work in sextech?

The female body can be commoditised and commercialised all over the place, until a woman owned company wants to capitalise on the female form – all of the sudden the social networks have deep moral compasses and a responsibility to the a conservative world.

When it comes to sex, what’s the one thing you wish everyone knew?

It isn’t one size fits all… Sex is as unique as people are.

Cindy Gallop said once that porn has homogenised sex and I think that really captures society’s general problem with sex. Talk about sex is typically centred on achieving orgasm, but it’s time for us to move beyond orgasms and restrictive acronyms such as BBC (big black cock), PAWG (phat ass white girls), BBW (big breasted women).

For me, sex is all about sharing an experience. I’m not focused on an end game (orgasm) or matching what I watched a porn star do on screen. I am focused on keeping myself open and vulnerable to ensure that my partner and I can share a connection on a physical and emotional level.

What are you currently working on that you are willing to share?

Currently, jD Organic Bath Co. has a single product line, Bomb AF Organic Bath Bombs. In the next few months, I am launching a line of hydrating, after-bath, body spritz.

I also have a line of salt soaks for expectant mothers, for during pregnancy and postpartum. These are on special order only, because salt soaks are best when they are super fresh.

Pregnancy is a beautiful time, it can also be stressful and with body changes to accommodate the baby coming quickly, mom can experience discomfort. A soak in the tub relaxes mom and baby to keep everyone happy and healthy until delivery. Since pregnant women are not recommended to soak in certain amounts of baking soda, this blend is salts and oils only to be the best for the mum and the baby.

Keep in mind that most bath bombs (Bomb AF included) do not have enough baking soda in them to be ‘bad’ for the mother or baby, I just like to be on the safe side. As I am not a doctor, please do consult your doctor before use.

These are special order only, because salt soaks are best when they are super fresh. They can be ordered on www.jdbathco.com.
