Firstly, what is in an orgasm? The feeling behind the orgasm is actually caused by the release of a large number of chemicals. Some of the main ones are Oxytocin, Norepinephrine, Vasopressin, Prolactin, and Serotonin.

Vasopressin, another chemical also released during orgasm, also helps reduce Cortisol levels. The combination of these chemicals and many others go a long way to reducing your stress. And the less stress you have, the easier your mind can let go.
Getting Your Dream On
The chemicals release during orgasm don’t only remove stress hormones from our bodies. Serotonin and Norepinephrine, also released during orgasm, are both hormones that encourage REM sleep. REM sleep — which is what stage we’re in during dreaming — is essential. Our bodies only begin to recover from the day when we are deep in REM. Encouraging REM means we feel more rested and refreshed the next day.
In summary, orgasms can help you sleep. It’s important that sleepers understand what encourages good sleep. Granted, getting a nice mattress and having a good sleeping environment is key. But there are also additional ways to help you sleep — such as having a late-night orgasm.
